Description
Kambo
Kambo (also known as Sapo or Dow-Kiet) is a traditional healing medicine used by indigenous tribes in South America. The Name Kambo was given to the frog by indigenous tribes in Brazil within the Amazon jungle. Kambo as used by the Matsés tribe in Peru and Brazil was used as a hunting medicine to increase the senses. While Kambo has been used for centuries by indigenous communities, it has become more popular in recent years in other parts of the world as a form of alternative medicine.
Kambo (Phyllomedusa bicolor) is found in the Amazon Basin. This nocturnal frog is a large tree frog that climbs vines and trees within the forest around still bodies of water. The frog secretes a viscous liquid from its skin for reasons still not fully understood. The secretion contains 16 known bioactive peptides, including dermorphin and deltorphin, which are known to have strong analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
